Help to Eliminate Puncturevine in Bidwell Park
The dreaded Puncturevine (tribulus terrestris) is making its
annual appearance in Upper Bidwell Park
Help eradicate this
pest plant in the park by:
- Reporting locations
where you see the plant. We know it’s found along the paved
bike path between Easter Cross and Parking Area E and along Upper
Park Road from Wildwood to Parking Area E. If you see it elsewhere,
please let us know.
- Properly dispose of
any Puncturevine seeds that get imbedded in your bike tire or shoes
by putting the seeds into your home trashcan. If you just throw the
seed back onto the ground, it may sprout next year, creating hundreds
of new seeds.
- Spend an hour or
two removing these plants from the park, by cutting the plant off at
the base of the stem and putting it and any seeds that are on the
ground into a plastic bag. If you see a few plants in an isolated
patch, please stop and get rid of them. This will keep the
infestation from spreading to new areas of the park.
- Participate in Puncturevine Removal Day on July 31 starting from Parking Area
C (Easter Cross). Come any time between 8 am and noon.
