This project was initiated in 1999, after an analysis of traffic accidents showed that 31% of all H99 accidents were occurring in the section between Hwy 32 and East 1st Ave. Phase One, completed in 2010, expanded and improved the on and off ramps at East 1st Ave. Phase Two will add 2 lanes on the inside of the existing roadway within Bidwell Park, upgrade the Highway 32 on and off ramps and construct 14' high sound walls starting at about 250' inside the park's north boundary (about halfway between Vallombrosa Ave. and Petersen Drive) extending to East 1st Ave.
The project is managed by Caltrans, with the Butte County Association of Governments (BCAG) acting as the interface to the public. For background information, see BCAG. On the BCAG web site, you can sign up to receive email or mailed project updates.
