Volunteer Thursday in the Park -- Sycamore Restoration Site at One Mile Recreation Area from 1-4 pm. Volunteers will remove invasive weeds from the restoration site and help transplant native plants. Meet at the north end of Caper Acres  Map -- walk past the Caper Acres entrance gate toward the paved path. Call 624-3982 for work session information.

25 Comanche Creek Greenway Workday Join community/neighborhood volunteers at the intersection of East Park Ave. and Park Ave., the eastern boundary of the city-owned Comanche Creek Greenway.  From 8:30 to 10:30  am.  Volunteers will remove invasive plants, especially blackberry. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.  Bring work gloves if you have them. For more information, call 966-6861 prior to the work session.

Big Chico Creek Ecology Reserve Moth Night (moderate, 6:30 pm)
Moths are generally more active at night and are therefore less well-known to us than their daytime counterparts the butterflies. Join Chico State entomologist, Dr. Don Miller, in an exciting evening of moth baiting, observing, identifying and collecting. See BCCER for complete information.

If driving, park on Vallombrosa Ave at Lilac Lane, follow the dirt road towards the creek and turn left when you reach the paved road.  Bring gloves and water if you can; some will be available too. From 8 to 11 am; any amount of time you can volunteer will help with this eradication effort.  Sponsored by Friends of Bidwell Park.  Call cell 321-3406 if you can't find the work site.

5th Annual Pedal Powered Music Festival starting at at Children's Playground then continuing on to Camellia Way Park and Cedar Grove.  From 1 am to 3:45 pm. See BEC for more details.

Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs free annual fishing derby from 7 am to 1 pm at Horseshoe Lake Map. For children ages 4-12 and under, limit 1 fish per child. Expert local anglers on hand to help coach. Bring your own gear (no lead sinkers) or borrow from organizers. 14 Bidwell Park and Creeks of Chico annual cleanup.  Help Butte Environmental Council clean up Bidwell Park, Little Chico Creek, Big Chico Creek, Sycamore Creek, Teichert Ponds and Lindo Channel from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm (includes lots of snacks and a free lunch afterwards).  Bring gloves and water and wear closed-toe shoes. Long pants preferable. For the park cleanup (suitable for children), meet at Hooker Oak Park parking lot Map.  For the creeks cleanup, meet at 1057 Park Ave (at 11th St). Help is especially needed if you have a pickup truck.  For more information, contact BEC. Funding for event provided by City of Chico and numerous local businesses.

Annual Polar Bear Swim across Lower Bidwell Park's Sycamore Pool Map starting at 1 pm.  This is a no-host event--you just show up at the appropriate time. Even if you don't want to brave the chilly waters, this is a fun park event to attend and you're sure to see some of your neighbors and friends!

New Year's Day Upper Bidwell Park Banana Belt Hike to view early spring flowers and the last of the fall flowers.  Lunch at an Indian rock shelter. Sponsored by the Mount Lassen Chapter of the California Native Plant Society.  Meet at 10 am at Parking Area E Map.  Bring lunch & water and wear hiking gear.  This is about a 2 mile walk.
