25 (9 am to noon) Make a Difference Day Come make a difference in Bidwell Park and other city-owned open spaces!  Trash pickup, weed removal, painting and more, with various work sites including a creekside greenway, One Mile Recreation Area, Chico Creek Nature Center, and Comanche Creek. Please wear closed-toe shoes. Tools and water provided, but if possible bring your own water container. 2 39th Annual Almond Bowl 5K Run/Walk (8 am start time), Marathon and Half Marathon Run(8:15 am start time) Sponsored by the Chico Running Club.  For registration information, see Almond Bowl.  Pre-registration required.  Packet pickup prior to event or from 6:30-7:45 am on race day on the south side of One Mile.  This is one of the park's major annual events (~ 1,200 people) so if you're not a participant, you might want to visit a different part of Bidwell Park this morning!

(9am - 12pm) Invasive weed removal at picnic site #2. If coming by car drive east on Hwy 32/9th Street and turn left onto Fir Street shortly after you cross under Hwy 99. As soon as you cross over Hwy32, go straight instead of turning right onto E. 8th St., and park in the small dead end parking area.  Follow the bike path sign into the park--Picnic site #2 will be slightly to the right as you get to the park road. If bicycling, look for picnic site #2 after you ride east on south Park Dr. It's slightly east of the Hwy 99 overpass.

We will be removing Himalayan blackberry and other invasive plants. Bring water, wear closed toe shoes, long pants and long sleeves. Call 530 526- 5000 for directions and information. Don't forget that Daylight Savings Time has ended--set your clock back on Saturday night!

Annual Polar Bear Swim across Lower Bidwell Park's Sycamore Pool Map starting at 1 pm.  This is a no-host event--you just show up at the appropriate time. Even if you don't want to brave the chilly waters, this is a fun park event to attend and you're sure to see some of your neighbors and friends!

New Year's Day Upper Bidwell Park Banana Belt Hike to view early spring flowers and the last of the fall flowers.  Lunch at an Indian rock shelter. Sponsored by the Mount Lassen Chapter of the California Native Plant Society.  Meet at 10 am at Parking Area E Map.  Bring lunch & water and wear hiking gear.  This is about a 2 mile walk.

19 (9 am to 12:30 pm) Bidwell Park and Creeks of Chico annual cleanup.  Help Butte Environmental Council clean up Bidwell Park, Little Chico Creek, Big Chico Creek, Teichert Ponds and Lindo Channel. Includes snacks and a free lunch afterwards.  Bring gloves and water and wear closed-toe shoes. Long pants preferable. For the park cleanup (suitable for children), meet at Hooker Oak Park parking lot Map.  For the creeks cleanup, meet at 1057 Park Ave (at 11th St). Your help is especially needed if you have a pickup truck.  For more information and to pre-register, contact BEC. Funding for event provided by City of Chico and numerous local businesses.
